Are you praying for a breakthrough in your marriage? Or praying for God to work a certain situation out? Are you wondering if God even hears your prayers? I want to tell you today that yes He does hear your prayers, and yes He will work it out. He has the power to do great and mighty things! He has the power to transform your circumstance. He has the power to take something bad and turn it into something good. I know how hard it can be to wait upon the Lord, so I’ve come up with a list of things to help you during this season of your life.
1) Trust in God
Stop trying to figure everything out on your own. God’s got this. He don’t need your advice, He don’t need you getting in the way, just trust that He has a plan and that His plan will work. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding (Prov 3:5). Trusting God means that you give up your desire to control the situation. It means that you have faith that God sees you, He hears you, and He knows your every need.
2) Stop rushing God
Our timing isn’t always God’s timing. He sees way farther then we ever can. He sees the big picture and He knows every step that’s going to take place. I know you want a breakthrough now, but be patient. Sometimes you got to go through some things first. Sometimes your faith will be tested. But in the end you will know that through it all God never left your side. God’s taking you on a ride, sit back and trust His direction. Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! (Psalm 27:14).
3) Do your part
For years I prayed for my marriage but nothing changed. I thought maybe my husband and I just wasn’t meant to be, and divorce would be the best option. One day while I was praying, God clearly spoke to my spirit and said, “All this time you’ve been waiting on me, but I’ve been waiting on you.” It hit me really hard. I thought, wow I’ve not been doing my part as wife. So if you’re praying for your marriage to change, make sure you’re doing everything you can on your part. By that I mean prayer, dealing with your own sin, loving unconditionally, being respectful, engaging with your spouse, meeting your spouse’s needs, forgiveness, etc. You do what you can do, and trust God to do what you can’t do. Faith apart from works is dead (Jam 2:26).
4) Fast
All throughout the Bible we read that God’s people fasted while praying. JESUS himself fasted. Fasting will strengthen you spiritually, and it will help you have clear direction from the Lord. Prayer and fasting will turn your situaution around. Cry out to the Lord, and He will hear you. Is this not the fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? (Isa 58:7).
5) Stay positive
Even in hard times, we can make the choice to focus on the good and not the bad. Everything may not be going your way, but nothing takes God by surprise. He knows what you’re going through and He will give you the strength you need to endure it. Instead of feeling hopeless and in despair, say out loud, “I know that God will works all things out for my good. I know that God has plan for my life. And I know that my breakthrough is coming!” Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Gal 6:9).
