How To Stand When You Feel Like Breaking

Some people may look at my life and think “She has it all together”, but the truth is I don’t. There are many days I feel like I could just fall apart. I am a wife, a mother of three children, a full time nurse, a college student, a writer, and the leader of this ministry.  I love my life and all the blessings God has given me, but to be completely honest, some days I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders. Some days I feel like giving up. Some days I wonder how much more can I handle. But even on those bad days, I always commit to God that no matter what, I won’t give up. That no matter what I will keep standing and I will keep doing everything He has called me to do.

Maybe you can relate to this today. Maybe you’re going through something in your life right now that makes you want to give up. Maybe you feel like if just one more thing goes wrong you will just fall apart. It could be in your marriage, your finances, your relationships, your job, with your kids, with school, or whatever. I want to give you three ways you can keep standing when you feel like breaking.

  1. Remember that although you may bend, you won’t break.

Many of us have forgotten that God never promised us an easy life. He never promised that we wouldn’t have trials and tribulations. Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble…(John 16:33). But God’s word also says, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed (2 Cor. 4:8-9).

God is with you! He will not abandon you! He’s always there to comfort you and give you a supernatural strength to withstand whatever you are going through. He wants you to cast your cares on Him. He wants you to call on Him in trouble so He can rescue you. He wants to show you that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. He wants to remind you that no matter how bad it is, and no matter how much it hurts, He won’t let you break.

2.  Remember who your God is

Many of us have forgotten just who our God is. He’s the God who parted the Red Sea. He’s the God who shut the mouth of lions to protect Daniel in the Lion’s den. He’s the God who delivered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace. He’s the God who causes the dead to rise. Why in the world do we think that our problems are too big for Him? Why in the world do we make statement’s like, “I can’t get through this.” “I cant’ handle this.” or “This is more than I can bare.” The Bible says, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Phill.4:13). You have the same power that rose Jesus Christ from the dead living in you, so you CAN get through whatever you’re going through today.

3. Remember where He’s brought you from

On the days I feel my weakest, God reminds me of where He’s brought me from and what He’s got me through. I survived growing up in a house full of drug addicts, dysfunction, and family members in and out of jail. I survived raising a child at the age of 16. I survived nursing school with a full time job and two small children. I survived the pain of infidelity in my marriage. I survived the heartbreak of losing a best friend, and much more. When I think of all that, I know I can get through anything I’m facing today, and whatever I may face in the future, and you can too!

I want to encourage you to stand strong! Even when it hurts, stand strong! Even when it’s heavy stand strong! Even when you feel like breaking, stand strong! Even when you feel like giving in, stand strong! Even when it don’t seem fair, stand strong! Even when everyone else tells you to give up, stand strong!

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy one of Israel , your Savior (Isa. 43:1-3).
